Coordinated cyber-attacks are becoming more common, and they present significant concerns for private sector companies. In many cases these asymmetric attacks target sensitive internal information that has significant value to companies, including IP assets such as trade secrets and other similar forms of information. The Lares Institute has formed a working group to help companies address those issues and it is led by Executive Director Andrew Serwin.

Mr. Serwin also serves on the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Asymmetric Warfare (CAW) Advisory Team, in an effort to align and leverage both organizations significant expertise and experience in national security issues.

The Center for Asymmetric Warfare is an operational research and field test and evaluation center aligned under the Department of Defense Naval Postgraduate School. The CAW facilitates the improvement of preparedness and capabilities of agencies and organizations to prevent, defend and mitigate the effects of asymmetric threats. The CAW also:

• Supports military forces in identifying, countering, and controlling the effects of asymmetric warfare,
• Integrates local, state, and federal government resources into the military response;
• Conducts research and delivers focused training, field experimentation, and exercise and assessment programs;
• Improves the overall effectiveness of emergency response and disaster relief capabilities;
• Enhances the safety and security capabilities of the United States and its strategic allies; and
• Improves interagency collaboration and the civil/military interface at all levels of operation
The CAW permits organizations, including the private sector, to develop capabilities to share information and communicate regarding threat prevention, as well as respond to emerging threats and risks. Through the strategic sharing of information and resources with The Lares Institute, private companies can capitalize on the knowledge and experience of the CAW and the Lares Institute in preventing and detecting cyber risks.
